Cutters Wharf : Casual Dining On the River in Kentucky |
|
Source : Courier Journal Cutter's Wharf (1902 Victory Lane, 228-3100), a floating restaurant and bar on the Ohio, opened in Prospect June 17. Boaters and river rats likely know the spot by one of several names used over the past decade (Harvey's on the River, Heather's, On the River Dining, and even the Pink Pig) and recall its widely varied offerings. While keeping some of the bar food fare, new owner Paul Coogan has upped ante the with dishes such as grilled fish, chops, steak, several pasta dishes and house-made pizza. Sunday brunch is in the works as well.
The restaurant seats about 100 inside, and about half that number outside around a large tiki hut bar. The watering hole has become legendary among boaters seeking an oasis along the tree-lined stretch of the river between Six Mile and Twelve Mile Islands.
"There aren't many restaurants out here, but we know there are plenty of customers," said Coogan, whose son, Kieran, and daughter, Erin, are chef and front-of-the-house manager respectively. "We've been very busy already, so we expect to have a good summer" when word gets out.
Cutter's Wharf plans to begin delivering some menu items to homes and condos overlooking the marina and to parts of nearby Goshen. To maintain its Oldham County liquor license, 70 percent of the restaurant's sales must be from food, so moving munchies is a priority.
"It can be tough for us to meet that minimum since a lot of people stop here just for drinks," said Kieran Coogan. "But once we get the kitchen going like we want to, we'll add delivery, which should help us with the food sales." |
